What it is
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. A small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn and processed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich plasma, which is then injected into selected areas of the scalp.
PRP has been studied as a treatment for hair loss, including androgenetic or pattern hair loss. Research suggests it may help some patients with hair density and shedding, although results vary and it is not a permanent or guaranteed solution.
02
WHAT CAN PRP HAIR TREATMENT SUPPORT?
PRP is generally considered as part of a broader hair-loss plan rather than a universal treatment for every thinning concern. Its suitability depends on the diagnosis and condition of the existing follicles.
Evidence suggests PRP may help women with female-pattern hair loss after appropriate evaluation.
Reduced density across the crown may be assessed to determine whether PRP could form part of the treatment plan.
Selected women with progressive part-line thinning may be evaluated for non-surgical hair-restoration options including PRP.
PRP is generally more relevant where functioning follicles remain rather than areas of longstanding complete baldness.
Some studies and clinical guidance report reduced shedding in patients who respond to PRP, although outcomes vary.
PRP may sometimes be used alongside hair transplantation to support hair growth as part of a physician-directed plan.
WHO IT’S NOT FOR
Some situations require closer medical review before PRP treatment is considered.
Sudden or unexplained hair loss where the underlying cause has not yet been diagnosed
Active scalp infection, inflammation or open skin in the proposed treatment area
Known platelet or bleeding-related conditions, which should be discussed with the treating clinician
Medications that affect bleeding or clotting, which require medical review before an injectable procedure
Advanced longstanding bald areas where expectations of significant regrowth may not be realistic
This list isn’t exhaustive. Your clinician will review your scalp, hair-loss diagnosis, medical history and current medications before recommending PRP.

What to expect
Hair & scalp assessment
Your clinician evaluates the pattern and cause of hair loss, scalp health, density and treatment history before recommending PRP.
Blood processing & PRP preparation
A small blood sample is collected and processed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich plasma.
Targeted scalp treatment
The prepared plasma is injected into selected thinning areas of the scalp. PRP usually requires repeat treatments, and maintenance may be recommended depending on response.

Physician note
PRP should not be treated as a universal solution for hair loss. The most important first step is understanding why the hair is thinning.

Why Averah
Diagnosis comes first
PRP is considered only after understanding the type and cause of hair loss.
Controlled PRP preparation
Blood processing and treatment are performed in a professional clinical setting.
Personalised treatment planning
The treatment plan is built around the patient's density, thinning pattern and clinical findings.
Progress-focused follow-up
Hair density and shedding are reviewed over time rather than judging the treatment from a single session.

Questions
PRP hair treatment uses platelet-rich plasma prepared from a small sample of the patient's own blood and injects it into areas of hair loss or thinning.
Studies suggest PRP may help selected patients with hair loss, particularly androgenetic or pattern hair loss, but response varies between individuals.
No. PRP is a non-surgical injectable treatment. A hair transplant physically moves follicles from a donor area, while PRP works with the patient's existing scalp and follicles.
PRP is not generally considered permanent. Maintenance treatments may be needed to maintain benefit.
Treatment schedules vary. The AAD describes repeat initial injections followed by maintenance in some protocols, but your clinician should personalise the frequency according to diagnosis and response.
Some repair cases can require multiple stages depending on the complexity of the existing transplant and the desired correction.
PRP generally has little downtime, although temporary soreness, bruising or scalp sensitivity can occur after injections.
Hair improvement is gradual. Clinical sources note that changes may become noticeable over the following months rather than immediately.
PRP may sometimes be used alongside hair transplantation to support post-transplant hair growth, depending on the treatment plan.
A hair-loss diagnosis and scalp assessment are needed because different causes of thinning require different treatment strategies.

PERSONALISED REGENERATIVE HAIR CARE
PRP works best when the diagnosis comes first.
Hair thinning can result from several different conditions, and one treatment cannot address every cause. The AAD specifically recommends establishing the cause of hair loss before deciding on treatment.
At Averah, position PRP as one possible component of a wider hair-restoration plan—not as a guaranteed “hair growth injection.”
This makes the page more clinically credible while supporting realistic expectations around density, shedding and maintenance.
