01

What it is

Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The blood is processed to separate a plasma fraction containing a concentrated level of platelets, which is then used as part of the selected treatment protocol.

PRP has been studied for facial rejuvenation, including concerns involving skin texture and wrinkles, although treatment preparation and techniques vary considerably between studies and clinics. Current reviews consider the results promising but do not support guaranteed outcomes.

02

What can PRP Facial address?

PRP has been studied for several facial rejuvenation concerns, but improvement varies between patients and evidence is stronger for some outcomes than others.

Available evidence suggests facial skin texture is one of the more consistently reported areas of improvement following PRP treatment.

PRP has been studied for facial wrinkles and may help selected fine lines appear softer over time.

PRP may form part of a broader rejuvenation plan for selected early age-related skin-quality changes.

PRP has been studied for rejuvenation around the eye area, including selected photoageing and wrinkle concerns.

PRP has been investigated alone and alongside other procedures for selected acne-scar and texture concerns, although combination protocols vary.

PRP may sometimes be included within a dermatologist-led pigmentation plan. AAD lists PRP as one possible additional procedure for selected patients with melasma.

WHO MAY NEED FURTHER ASSESSMENT

Some factors should be reviewed carefully before PRP treatment.

Blood or platelet disorders

Medicines that affect blood clotting

Active infection or significant inflammation

Relevant haematological or medical conditions

Pregnancy, breastfeeding or another condition requiring individual medical review

This list isn’t exhaustive. Your clinician will review your medical history, medicines, skin condition and rejuvenation goals before recommending PRP.

03

What to expect

Skin & medical assessment

Skin texture, fine lines, pigmentation and medical history are reviewed before treatment.

Blood collection & PRP preparation

A small blood sample is collected and processed using a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma fraction.

Treatment & gradual review

Prepared PRP is administered according to the selected medical protocol. Temporary tenderness, swelling or bruising may occur, and improvement—when it occurs—develops progressively rather than instantly.

04

Physician note

PRP Facial treatment should be personalised to the patient—not marketed as an instant “younger skin” solution.

Research suggests potential improvement in skin quality, but PRP preparation, concentration, injection technique and treatment schedules are not fully standardised. This is why realistic expectations and medical assessment matter.

Questions

A PRP Facial uses platelet-rich plasma prepared from a sample of the patient’s own blood as part of a facial rejuvenation treatment.

A small amount of blood is collected and processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma portion before treatment.

Studies have investigated PRP for skin texture, wrinkles and other facial ageing concerns. Evidence is promising but variable, with stronger support for improvement in facial texture than for some other outcomes.

No. PRP should not be presented as a permanent anti-ageing treatment. Current evidence does not support guaranteed or permanent rejuvenation results.

Yes. PRP used in this type of treatment is generally autologous, meaning it is prepared from the patient’s own blood.

There is no universal schedule. Reviews note substantial variation in PRP preparation, treatment protocols and session frequency, so treatment should be individualised.

Temporary swelling, tenderness, bruising, tingling or colour changes can occur following PRP-based facial procedures. Recovery varies with the technique used.

PRP is sometimes used alongside microneedling in aesthetic practice. However, the FDA specifically notes that it has not cleared microneedling devices for use with PRP or another product, meaning the safety and effectiveness of that combination have not been reviewed by the FDA.

Because PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood, allergy to the PRP itself is less of a concern than with many foreign substances, but treatment still involves blood handling and skin penetration. Sterile preparation and trained medical administration are important because infection, discomfort and other complications can occur.

PERSONALISED PRP REJUVENATION

Your own plasma. A treatment plan built around your skin.

PRP is prepared from the patient’s own blood, but that does not mean every patient needs the same treatment. Skin concern, medical history, PRP preparation and treatment technique can all influence the approach and response.

At Averah, treatment planning focuses on your skin quality, rejuvenation goals and medical suitability before deciding whether PRP should be used alone or considered alongside another treatment.
