What it is
Sapphire FUE is an FUE-based hair transplant approach. During FUE, individual follicular units are removed from the donor area using small punches.
The term “Sapphire” generally refers to the use of sapphire blades during the recipient-site preparation stage before graft placement. It does not change the fundamental donor-harvesting method, which remains FUE. ISHRS materials specifically list “Sapphire micro FUE” among marketing terms used around FUE procedures.
02
Where can Sapphire FUE help?
The suitability of Sapphire FUE depends primarily on whether the patient is a suitable candidate for FUE hair transplantation. FUE individually harvests follicular units from available donor areas for placement into areas of hair loss.
For selected frontal recession requiring natural hairline reconstruction.
For temple restoration where careful graft direction and transition are important.
For selected crown hair loss where donor supply allows appropriate restoration.
May be considered in appropriately selected patients with sufficient donor follicles.
FUE can also be considered in selected women where the pattern of loss and donor area are suitable.
May form part of a transplant plan where additional coverage is required and adequate donor supply exists.
WHO MAY NEED FURTHER ASSESSMENT
Certain hair and scalp conditions may require Sapphire FUE to be delayed, modified or reviewed before treatment planning.
Weak or limited donor density
Rapidly progressing or undiagnosed hair loss
Active scalp infection or inflammation
Previous donor-area overharvesting
Expectations beyond available donor supply
A sapphire blade does not overcome limitations in donor density or hair-loss pattern. Suitability should be determined by the overall transplant assessment.

What to expect
Donor & Hairline Assessment
Donor density, hair characteristics, recipient area and long-term restoration goals are evaluated before surgery.
FUE Graft Harvesting
Individual follicular units are removed from the donor area using micro-punches. ISHRS describes FUE as individual follicular-unit harvesting rather than strip removal.
Recipient-Site Preparation & Placement
Recipient sites are created according to the planned hairline, angle, direction and density before prepared follicular grafts are placed.
04
Physician note
The sapphire blade is one instrument within the procedure—not the factor that determines the entire result.
ISHRS notes that there is no single “best” FUE method. Hair characteristics and surgeon expertise play an important role in surgical outcome.

Questions
Sapphire FUE is an FUE-based hair transplant approach where sapphire instruments may be used during recipient-site preparation. The donor follicles are still harvested using FUE principles.
Not fundamentally in terms of donor harvesting. FUE describes the removal of individual follicular units using micro-punches; “Sapphire” refers to an instrument used during another stage of the transplant.
It should not be presented as universally superior. ISHRS states that there is no single best FUE procedure because technique selection is personalised and outcomes depend on hair characteristics and surgical expertise.
Yes. Because the donor harvesting is FUE-based, small circular extraction scars can remain. FUE avoids a linear FUT scar but is not scar-free.
The sapphire instrument may be used during recipient-site preparation before follicular graft placement. It does not harvest the donor follicles.
Natural appearance depends on factors such as appropriate graft positioning, angulation, orientation, donor selection and overall surgical planning.
There is no fixed number. Graft requirements depend on your hair-loss area, existing density, desired coverage and available donor supply.
FUE commonly involves shaving or trimming donor hair for access, although selected partial-shave or unshaven approaches are possible.
No. Donor quality, hair-loss diagnosis, recipient-area needs and long-term progression all influence suitability.

PERSONALISED SAPPHIRE FUE PLANNING
Precision comes from the plan—not just the blade.
The material used for recipient-site preparation is only one part of transplantation. Donor quality, graft survival, hairline design, follicle direction and long-term donor management all contribute to the final appearance. ISHRS specifically cautions against relying on branded or catchy FUE terminology as proof of superiority.
At Averah, Sapphire FUE planning should therefore begin with understanding your donor hair, hair-loss pattern and restoration goals before selecting instruments or techniques.
